The Metfone Viettel, a Cambodia-based affiliate of the Vietnamese military-owned Viettel Corporation, will provide free internet service to schools in Cambodia.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 5 million USD assistance package was signed by Metfone Director Nguyen Duy Tho and Cambodian Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Im Sethy in the capital city of Phnom Penh on December 29.

Under the MOU, Metfone commits to providing 2,000 free Internet connections and related devices for all public schools, education centres, universities, colleges and offices under the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.

In addition, hundreds of Cambodian students with excellent academic results will each receive a scholarship of 10 USD a month during two years from the company.

At the signing ceremony, Im Sethy appreciated Viettel’s support and said the support will promote the introduction of information technology into Cambodia’s education system and help develop human resources./.
