Viettel supports eye surgery in Vietnam, Laos

cataract and eye-related diseases in Vietnam and Laos.
The funding has been handed over to the Central Ophthalmology Hospital (COH) to conduct 50 free-of-charge surgeries in Quang Xuong district in the central province of Thanh Hoa and another 150 cases in Laos.
As the first cooperation between Viettel and COH, the operation is part of a cooperative programme between the governments of Vietnam and Laos.
At the handover ceremony in Hanoi on May12, the two sides expect to set up and raise a fund for charitable eye surgeries through contributions by individuals, units and businesses.
Currently, about 1.2 million eyes and 15,000 newly-discovered cases each year in Vietnam along with over 56,200 blind people and 5,000 annually new cases in Laos are in need of surgery. Laos has only 15 ophthalmologic doctors with around 5,000 operations conducted each year./.
