Leaders of the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) pledged to ensure sufficient coal for electricity production despite the disruption caused by flooding recently.

At a meeting on overcoming flood consequences in the northern province of Quang Ninh on August 6, Dang Thanh Hai, General Director of Vinacomin said the company has been working to resume its normal activities.

Hai said coal production and consumption for all of 2015 would reach 35 million tonnes, one million below the original target, but that supply would be ensured for domestic consumption.

Concerning coal for electricity production, the company said it has already devised plans, including importing and mixing coal, to ensure adequate fuel for power plants through the end of the year.

The executive proposed the Government allow the company to implement urgent projects on the environment and storm prevention by naming contractors. The group also asked for reduction in environmental taxes and extension of tax-paying deadline for coal companies affected by the recent floods.

According to Vinacomin, the company suffered a loss of 1.2 trillion VND (55 million USD) in the floods.

The same day, the Northern Power Corporation said it would complete the restoration of electricity supply to all customers who experienced power outages during floods caused by torrential rains by August 8.

According to the company, as of August 6, affiliates of the company restored the electricity connections of 36,258 customers and only 249 customers in Quang Ninh, Son La and Lang Son are left without electricity.-VNA
