The Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (Vinaconex) should stay alert against challenges and continue upholding its tradition of a heroic unit in the stage of development ahead, said State President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Working with leaders and workers of Vinaconex in Hanoi on Oct. 31, the State President praised the corporation’s achievements posted over the past 20 years.

Since the establishment of its precursor - Overseas Construction and Service Company - in 1988, Vinaconex has developed into a leading corporation in the construction industry, with more than 70 affiliate companies and 42,000 staff operating throughout the country, he said.

The State leader stressed that Vinaconex is making the best of its capacity, role as well as contributions in civil construction and infrastructure projects to support socio-economic development in localities.

Earlier, President Triet inspected production and business operations at the Da river waterworks of the Vinaconex Water Supply One Limited Liability Company.

He said the project is a strategic programme in terms of social security that reflects Vinaconex’s resolve to supply enough safe water to residents and contribute to socio-economic development of the whole country in general and of Hanoi and Hoa Binh province in particular.

The project completed its first phase to the tune of 1.5 trillion VND (around 84.2 million USD) with a designed output of 300,000 cu.m of water per day.

It already began to supply water to residents in the south-western region of Hanoi, where the consumption volume reaches 80,000 cu.m.

Having acknowledged the fact, President Triet asked Hanoi ’s authorities to work closely with leaders of Vinaconex and concerned agencies to remove all obstacles regarding the building of pipelines, distribution networks and water prices in a move to ensure benefits of both people and the company./.
