Vinalines Queen survivor lands at Singapore

Hung was welcomed at the port by Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Tran Hai Hau and Vinalines representatives.

On the phone with the Hanoi-based Vietnam News Agency reporter, Hung said his health is recovering.

He took this opportunity to thank Ambassador Hau and all Vietnamese Embassy staff, Vinalines Shipping as well as media agencies for their special care for him and his family.

He expressed his wish that the Vietnam Maritime Rescue Centre will continue searching for the missing sailors and said he hopes they will be lucky like him.

Earlier, the Vietnamese Embassy conducted procedures to receive the sailor from British ship London Courage, which saved Hung on Dec. 30 at sea.

The embassy worked with relevant local agencies to complete necessary procedures to help Hung return to his family as quick as possible, Ambassador Hau told the VNA reporter on the phone.

Hung is scheduled to be on board Vietnam Airlines flight VN 660 on Jan. 4 and is expected to land at the Noi Bai International Airport at 18:15 (local time) the same day.

Hung, born in 1980 in Nghe An province, is the only sailor found alive so far after Vinalines Queen cargo vessel was in incident. Vinalines is working with foreign partners to search for 22 missing sailors on the missing vessel.

Vinalines Queen cargo vessel sank on Dec. 25 en route to China from Indonesia, carrying more than 54, 000 tonnes of nickel ore./.
