Vinh, with 682.4 points, ranked fourth after rivals from the Republic of Korea , China and Japan in the men's 10m pistol event at the Asian Shooting Championship in Qatar on Jan. 15.
According to the rules, only the top two athletes from each event can qualify to compete at Olympics but all three rivals already had tickets so Vinh automatically took the only berth.
Vinh is Vietnam 's first ever athlete to secure an Olympic shooting berth.
However, Asian Games silver medallist Ha Minh Thanh is also expected to secure a ticket to London in the coming days as he competes in the men's 25m rapid pistol event.
Earlier, Vietnam secured berths for two taekwondo and one judo martial artists and two gymnasts to participate in the London Games. /.
