A Vietnamese delegation led by Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang attended the 8 th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC-8) that opened in Bali , Indonesia , on Oct. 11.

At the meeting, Quang presented speeches on the transnational crime situation in Vietnam and the region as well as the country’s fulfilment of its commitment in the fight against transnational crime and called for the intensification of regional and international cooperation in this field.

The Vietnamese minister underlined the need to maintain cooperation within the framework of AMMTC while improving the role and efficiency of AMMTC and the role held by the meeting’s rotational chair in researching and selecting prioritised areas in the region to proactively propose action programmes suitable for each ASEAN member country.

He also mentioned enhancing ASEAN cooperation with partners and dialogue countries in specific prioritised areas, to take advantage of support and cooperation of these countries in transnational crime prevention.

Vietnam agreed with the joint declaration of ASEAN leaders on improving the efficiency of cooperation in human trafficking prevention and control in Southeast Asia .

On the sidelines of the meeting, Quang held bilateral talks with ASEAN General Secretary Surin Pitsuwan./.
