Vietnamese Ambassador Le Hoai Trung, Vietnam’s permanent representative to the United Nations, on July 20 presented his credentials to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

At the reception, the UN Chief praised Vietnam’s achievements in all aspects as well as the developing partnership between Vietnam and the UN. He said he was impressed with Vietnamese leaders and people.

He voiced his thanks to the Vietnamese Government for its support for the UN, which he said was shown through the country’s activities when it worked as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and at different UN offices.

The UN Secretary General also highlighted Vietnam’s contributions to revitalising the UN, such as the One UN initiative in the country.

Ambassador Trung used the occasion to introduce Vietnam’s modernisation achievements, saying Vietnam will continue to cooperate with the UN in accordance with its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, development and active and proactive international integration set by the Vietnamese Party and State.

Vietnam will actively contribute to fulfilling the UN mission of maintaining peace and security in the region and the world, boosting development cooperation and coping with new challenges facing the international community as well as UN reform, the diplomat said./.
