A Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, Nguyen Manh Hung attended the 13th International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties in Greece from Dec. 9-11.

At the meeting and working sessions with representatives of parties, Hung introduced the results of the 11th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the country’s socio-economic development achievements over the past 25 years of renewal.

Delegates said in the present international context, the stable development of Vietnam and socialist countries reflects the strong vitality and bright prospects of socialism.

With the theme of “Socialism is the future”, the meeting drew more than 100 foreign delegates who represented 78 communist and workers parties from 61 countries worldwide.

At the meeting, the delegates focused discussions on international issues, the situation of international communist and workers movements over the past 20 years following the collapse of socialism in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe as well as tasks to step up class struggles amid the crisis of capitalism.

The joint statement of the meeting stressed that amid the crisis of capitalism, socialist construction experience and practices prove the pre-eminences of socialism and that only socialism can wipe out wars, unemployment, poverty and illiteracy.

Communist and workers’ parties should promote activities and uphold its leading role in workers and people’s struggle towards socialism, said the joint statement.
