A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam, headed by Nguyen Manh Hung, deputy head of the External Relations Commission, attended the 12th International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties in Johannesburg , South Africa from Dec. 3-5.
The Vietnamese delegation joined delegates of 48 other parties from 42 countries in discussions and activities of the meeting, which took the theme “The deepening systemic crisis of capitalism - the tasks of communists in defence of sovereignty, deepening social alliances, strengthening the anti-imperialist front in the struggle for peace, progress and socialism”.
Participants discussed the world and regional political situation and measures to boost solidarity and cooperation among parties.
The meeting issues a declaration, calling on all social forces to join hands with the communists in the struggle for socialism and affirming that socialism is the only solution for human future. It stressed that in the circumstance of the deepening crisis of capitalism, the reality of building socialism in socialist countries, including Vietnam, has prove the superiority of socialism.
The declaration pointed out five immediate tasks for communist and workers parties in the world.
Firstly, promoting the working class and people’s struggles for labour and social rights, strengthening the trade-union movement and the social alliance with peasants and the other popular strata.
Secondly, intensifying the struggle for peace, and the abolition of all nuclear weapons against wars and the dangerous “new” NATO strategy.
Thirdly, resolutely fighting anticommunism, anti-communist laws, measures and persecution and defending the history of the communist movement, the contribution of socialism in advancing human civilisation.
Fourthly, affirming solidarity with the forces and peoples engaged in and striving for socialist construction.
And fifthly, strengthening international anti-imperialist mass organizations like the World Federation of Trade Union (WFTU), the World Peace Council (WPC), the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) and the Federation of International Democratic Women (WIDF).
While in South Africa , the Vietnamese delegation was received by Blade Nzimande, General Secretary of the Communist Party of South Africa, who affirmed that his party attaches importance to boosting friendship and cooperation with the Communist Party of Vietnam and will actively contribute to enhance ties between the two countries.
The Vietnamese delegation also had meetings with other participating delegations on the sidelines of the event./.
