Vietnam ended their victory drought after trouncing Myanmar 7-1 on Dec. 2 in their opening match of the ASEAN football tournament at Hanoi's National My Dinh Stadium.
It was the defending champions’ first win in 12 matches.
Striker Nguyen Anh Duc and midfielder Nguyen Trong Hoang each scored twice, while captain Nguyen Minh Phuong, midfielders Nguyen Vu Phong and Le Tan Tai scored the remainder.
Anh Duc, who scored two goals at the recent Asian Games in China, was the first to find the back of the net.
Myanmar's only goal came in the 17th minute from the foot of Aung Kyaw Moe, who succeeded in getting on the end of a long pass from midfield. Moe left behind two Vietnamese defenders to net the ball and level the score 1-1.
It is the sixth time Vietnam have beaten Myanmar in eight official meetings. In the regional AFF Suzuki Cup, Vietnam are undefeated by Myanmar.
In the earlier group B game, Singapore, three-time AFF Cup champions, tied 1-1 with underdogs the Philippines.
Vietnam will next play the Philippines on Dec. 5, while Myanmar will play Singapore./.
