VN-Brazil trade increases sharply in 2011

Two-way trade between Vietnam and Brazil reached around 1.44 billion USD in 2011, an increase of 53.8 percent compared to the previous year.

According to the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, this was the first time the two countries’ trade has surpassed 1 billion USD.

In 2011, Brazil exported commodities worth 794 million USD to Vietnam and imported over 646 million USD worth of goods from the Southeast Asian nation, up 71.4 percent and 36.6 percent respectively.

Brazil mainly ships animal feed, cotton, tobacco materials, corn and steel to Vietnam while Vietnam exports footwear, frozen fish fillets, printers, rubber, fibre, cement, headphone, auto tires and electric engines to this Latin American economy.

The ministry also said that the Vietnam-Brazil trade has continuously increased since 2000, surpassing the milestones of 100 million USD in 2005 and 1 billion USD last year./.
