Vietnam has called on parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina to fully implement the Dayton Peace Agreement, stated the Vietnamese Ambassador.

At a UN Security Council’s discussion on Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), in New York on Nov. 23, Ambassador Bui The Giang, Vietnam ’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN noted with concern the division among political leaders, challenging the Dayton Peace Agreement and, by implication, the sovereignty and constitutional order of BiH.

The Vietnamese Ambassador emphasized that a t this critical juncture, the political leaders in BiH need to work together towards a shared vision on the direction of the country so as to speed up the smooth operation of institutions and create more functional and efficient State structures.


He also called on political leaders of BiH to make every effort to promote sustainable return of refugees and internally displaced persons, and guarantee their rights to employment, health care, education and pensions.

The diplomat urged the international community to continue to play an important role in promoting the peaceful resolution of the conflict and facilitating BiH’s transition to a stable, reform-oriented, modern and democratic country.

On this occasion, Ambassador Giang congratulated BiH over its election as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the term 2010-2011, stressing that the cause of building a secure, democratic and stable multi-ethnic State has always been among the most important objectives for the political leaders and people of BiH./.
