Vietnam and Chile ’s legislative bodies have agreed to step up bilateral cooperation, especially in legislation and supervision, to consolidate their traditional friendship and foster cooperation between the two countries in the future.
The agreement was reached during the first ever visit to Chile by a high-ranking Vietnamese National Assembly delegation which was led by Deputy Chairman Uong Chu Luu from July 3-5.
During his stay, Luu held talks with Chilean Senate President Camilo Escalona Medina, the President of House of Representatives Nicolas M.Diaz; Foreign Minister Alfredo Moreno and Minister of Justice Teodoro Ribera Neuman.
Both sides pledged to promote economic and trade ties, to raise two-way trade to 10 billion USD in the next 10 years, as mentioned by Chilean President Sebastian Pinera during his visit to Vietnam in March.
Chile is willing to serve as a bridge to help Vietnamese goods enter the Latin American market. They also proposed that Vietnam acts as a gateway to help the country to expand its markets in Southeast Asia .
The Vietnamese delegation also heard an introduction on Chile ’s legal system, its experience in legislation and supervision, the roles its judicial and executive systems play and the State and local authorities.
On the occasion, Luu conveyed NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung’s invitation to the President of the Chilean House of Representatives to visit Vietnam in the future.-VNA
