VN commits to boost regional economic integration

The statement was made by Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang atconferences on intra-grouping trade and investment promotion on August27 on the sidelines of the 44 th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting (AEM44) in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

On accelerating theintra-grouping trade liberalisation, Vietnam is leading in carryingout the one-stop customs mechanism initiative, Hoang said.

Heaffirmed the country’s socio-economic achievements over the past 17years since joining ASEAN are sound proof of regional economicintegration acceleration.

According to Minister Hoang,the joining of ASEAN has brought Vietnam valuable experience indesigning policies regarding international economic integration andnarrowing the development gap with other developing and developedcountries.

He noted that increasing economiccooperation will contribute to enhancing mutual understanding as wellas ties on the politic and diplomatic fronts.

On the sidelines of the conferences, Hoang saidthe AEM-44 and related meetings discussed measures to promoteintra-bloc investment and cooperation as well as between the regionalmembers and non-regional partners.

He pointed to theimportance to seek measures to overcome difficulties in the context thatthe global economy’s slow recovery is impacting regional economies.

This content will be submitted to the 21st ASEAN Summit, scheduled for November in Phnom Penh , he added.

Later on the day, Minister Hoang held talks with Indonesian Trade Minister Gita Irawan Winjawan on boosting bilateral cooperation.-VNA

This is PM Hung’s first official visit to Cambodia. It holds particular significance, demonstrating the high priority that the Party, State and Government of Vietnam attach to relations with Cambodia and contributing to further deepening the bilateral ties of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability”.
