Vietnam commits to working with other ASEAN member countries to strictly implement the regional economic integration acceleration process.

The statement was made by Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang at conferences on intra-grouping trade and investment promotion on August 27 on the sidelines of the 44 th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting (AEM 44) in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

On accelerating the intra-grouping trade liberalisation, Vietnam is leading in carrying out the one-stop customs mechanism initiative, Hoang said.

He affirmed the country’s socio-economic achievements over the past 17 years since joining ASEAN are sound proof of regional economic integration acceleration.

According to Minister Hoang, the joining of ASEAN has brought Vietnam valuable experience in designing policies regarding international economic integration and narrowing the development gap with other developing and developed countries.

He noted that increasing economic cooperation will contribute to enhancing mutual understanding as well as ties on the politic and diplomatic fronts.

On the sidelines of the conferences, Hoang said the AEM-44 and related meetings discussed measures to promote intra-bloc investment and cooperation as well as between the regional members and non-regional partners.

He pointed to the importance to seek measures to overcome difficulties in the context that the global economy’s slow recovery is impacting regional economies.

This content will be submitted to the 21st ASEAN Summit, scheduled for November in Phnom Penh , he added.

Later on the day, Minister Hoang held talks with Indonesian Trade Minister Gita Irawan Winjawan on boosting bilateral cooperation.-VNA
