Vietnamese coastal managers gathered at a workshop in the central coastal city of Nha Trang on June 7 to review Vietnam’s efforts in joining the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (SDS-SEA) as well as to discuss ways to preserve marine natural resources.

As part of the Sea and Island Week 2011, the event drew the participation of almost 100 delegates, including representatives of the Partnership in Environmental Protection for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA).

SDS-SEA was initiated by PEMSEA and signed by 12 member countries within the framework of the Putrajaya Statement in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2003.

Following the signing of SDS-SEA, Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands worked closely with relevant agencies to report on the implementation of strategy in Vietnam as well as built an action plan until 2020 and a five-year programme on integrated coastal management./.
