The win helps the team have a go to the event title. Earlier, they also beatthe Philippines 3-0.
Vietnam’s head coach Mai Duc Chung said the key to victory was the calm displayby the team.
“We played calmly. When our rivals leveled the score at 1-1, we were still verycomposed,” Chung said, adding the match was tense but both sides played fairly.
Meanwhile, coach Reijners Roger Johannes Joseph Hu of Myanmar said he wasunsatisfied with the result.
“I am very disappointed with the result and the performance of Myanmar in thisgame,” he said.
With this result, it will be difficult for Myanmar to win a gold medal, headded.
Although Myanmar is considered stronger in the region, Vietnam still playedconfidently.
In the 18th minute, taking full advantage of Myanmar’s weak defenceline, Pham Hai Yen opened the score for Vietnam.
The early gold helped the team dominate the march in the first half. However,they did not score any more goals.
After the break, Myanmar attacked continuously to seek goals, and Win TheingiTun leveled the score 1-1 in the 58th minute.
In the 72th minute, Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy raised the score to 2-1 for her team.
From a quick throw-in, Huynh Nhu scored one more goal in the 82nd minute, concluding the match at 3-1.
Vietnam will meet Malaysia on August 22 and Thailand on August 24.
Chung said his team would make every effort to grab the best results in thesecoming matches.
At this year’s SEA Games, five women’s football teams including hosts Malaysia,the Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam play in a round-robin format toselect the top three teams for the event’s medal set.
The women’s football competition will last until August 24.
On the men’s side, Vietnamdefeated the Philippines 4-0 for their third straight win since the beginningof the event.
The U22 Vietnam team will face their Indonesian and Thai rivals in the twofinal matches of the qualifying round on August 22 and August 24, respectively.-VNA
