Belgian audiences will have the chance to experience Vietnamese cinema through various documentaries and feature films to be screened in Brussels on October 4-10.

An Overview of Vietnamese Cinema will offer locals a mixture of contemporary documentaries and feature films on October 4-8, and an exhibition of Vietnamese film posters will also be on show.

Canh Dong Bat Tan (Floating Lives) by director Nguyen Phan Quang Binh will be screened at 9pm on Oct. 5. The film based on writer Nguyen Ngoc Tu's short story Boundless Rice Fields, which was awarded the best story prize by the Vietnam Writers' Association in 2007.

It portrays the life of a family separated from the mainstream of modern society, yet containing within its microcosm the complex layers and dramas of human relationship: conjugal life, sexual trauma, and the failures and bonds of fatherhood, brotherhood and sisterhood.

A special night featuring Vietnamese documentaries will also be held on Oct.6.

Vietnamese film directors and actress Do Hai Yen will meet local audience at the screenings.

The activities are being co-organised by the Vietnam Embassy in Belgium, Wallonie-Bruxelles International and Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism./.
