Vietnam and India have agreed to strengthen quarantine regulations on plants including conducting joint quarantines for agricultural products and animal feed in the near future.

The agreement was signed at a meeting between Nguyen Xuan Hong, Head of the Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Sarvesh Rai, Director of the Agriculture and Cooperation Department under the Indian Ministry of Agriculture.

At the meeting, India also pledged to strengthen quarantine measures to address the amount of goods being shipped to Vietnam that do not meet the country’s necessary quarantine requirements.

Both parties also reached a consensus on issues over India’s continued failure to meet regulations last year and discussed a report on pest-infected corn, millet, wheat and soy beans imported from India./.
