Vietnam and Indonesia will further agricultural and aquacultural cooperation in the future.

This intention was signalled during separate meetings of Vietnamese officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and the Indonesian Minister of Trade and Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, on the occasion of Vietnam ’s attendance at the East Asian World Economic Forum (WEF) 2011 in Indonesia from June 12-13.

At the meeting between MARD Minister Cao Duc Phat and Indonesian Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Fadel Mohammad, the two sides discussed cooperation in exploiting and processing seafood and resolution of issues on violations of territorial waters of the two countries’ fishermen.

Fadel Mohammad agreed to consider and resolve the fishermen’s violations based on a spirit of respecting each country’s law, solidarity in the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and humanitarian treatment. He also expressed his hopes that Vietnam will further strengthen investment in the field of aquatic produce in Indonesia .

In a retreat session on a new vision for agricultural initiative between Vietnam and Indonesia on June 12, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Indonesian Vice Minister of Trade discussed potential cooperation fields between the two sides and shared experience on deploying and implementing the initiative called, “New Vision on Agriculture in East Asia ”.

During the meetings, both countries’ representatives put forward initiatives to enhance cooperation and boost development of both agricultural and trade sectors in their countries.

At this year’s WEF, Indonesia and other countries highly valued Vietnam’s economic achievements, especially in the field of agriculture, considering Vietnam as a suitable model in taking advantage of market factors in the agricultural sector to foster production, enhance farmers’ living standards and ensure food security./.
