Vietnam’s traditional woven fabrics using natural materials attracted attention participants at two international conferences on fibre plants held in Poznan city of Poland and Arad city of Romania in June.

Delegates from member countries of the FAO-ESCORENA European Cooperative Research Network on Flax and other Bast Plants at the conferences held on June 8-9 and June 21-24 showed their interest in Vietnam’s products made from flax and ramie plants as well as the possibility of introducing some European flax plants into Vietnam.

The Vietnamese delegation from the Centre for Southeast Asian Prehistory presented reports on ramie plant as an industrial plant in Vietnam, and the trial plantation of mountainous areas’ flax plants in delta area.

FAO-ESCORENA President Ryszard M. Kozlowski on the occasion officially suggested Vietnam to host an international conference on fibre plants in future.

Dr. Prof. Nguyen Viet from the Centre for Southeast Asian Prehistory welcomed the suggestion, expressing his hope that Vietnamese experts would have a chance to directly exchange experiences with international colleagues in research of fibre plants./.
