Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport (MoT) and the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) will speed up preparations for the signing of a comprehensive cooperation agreement in the transport sector.

During a working session between MoT Minister Ho Nghia Dung and MLIT Minister Seiji Maehara in Hanoi on May 3, the two sides exchanged on their cooperation activities and discussed the implementation of their MoU on expressway building signed in February 2009.

The two sides also worked on large-scale infrastructure projects in Vietnam , including express railway, urban railway, expressways, the Noi Bai and Hai Phong airports.

They discussed possibilities for Vietnam Airlines to get franchise to fly to the Haneda Airport and the role of Japan in the ASEAN-Japan relationship.

At the working session, Minister Dung spoke highly of the cooperation between the two countries, especially the effective cooperation in transport infrastructure development through Japan ’s official development assistance (ODA).

“Japan’s projects have helped change the face of transport in Vietnam and remarkably contributed to the country’s socio-economic development,” he said./.
