A ceremony was held in Hanoi on April 15 to connect the final part of the new Nhat Tan Bridge , which is deemed as a symbol of the Vietnam-Japan friendship.
As one of seven bridges spanning the Red River in Hanoi, the 8.9km bridge with eight lanes is a key traffic project for the capital, as it will link Noi Bai International Airport and downtown Hanoi .
The construction worth 13.6 trillion VND (647.6 million USD) is partly funded through official development assistance (ODA) by the Japanese Government.
At the ceremony, Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi Fukada said Nhat Tan Bridge will symbolise the Vietnam-Japan relationship, adding that he hopes Japanese ODA-funded projects in Vietnam will prove effective in the time to come.
At present, about 90 percent of the bridge construction has been completed. It is scheduled to be opened on a trial basis in October 2014.-VNA
