The People’s Procuracies of Vietnam’s central province of Quang Binh and Khammouane province of Laos on Mar. 7 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish their cooperative ties.

Under the MoU, the first of its kind, the two sides will effectively implement an agreement previously signed by the Supreme People’s Procuracies of Vietnam and Laos, while strengthening the exchange of provincial delegations to study each procuracy’s structure and discuss judicial matters and other related issues.

The two procuracies reached consensus on carrying out mutual judicial support activities in the spirit of the Vietnam-Laos treaty on mutual judicial assistance in civil and criminal matters, which was put into force in 1998, strengthening the fight against crime in each locality.

Quang Binh and Khammouane procuracies also agreed to closely coordinate with each other in settling criminal cases in border areas and other related cases in each province.

The procuracies of the two provinces will also continue to inform and educate people in border areas about each country’s law, national sovereignty and social security, contributing to the socio-development of each province.

Quang Binh and Khammouane provinces share a 201 km-long border. During the past years, the two provinces have engaged in strong cooperation to fight trans-national criminal activities.-VNA
