A symposium on the establishment of the north-western resistance committee during Vietnam and Laos ’s wars against the French is scheduled to be held by the end of March or early April in Laos ’s province of Sainyabuli.

The symposium will draw the participation of more than 100 officials of the parties and governments of both countries, as well as the Laos-Vietnam Veterans Association along with representatives of other relevant ministries and agencies.

High on the agenda will be Vietnam-Laos solidarity through the establishment of the resistance committee in the Laos ’s north-western region and an historical archive documenting the special ties between the two countries as well as plans for 2010. A get-together will be held for historical witnesses from the two countries on the occasion.

“Sainyabuli has been chosen as the venue of the symposium because the zone 2 resistance committee was established in the province,” said Viengkeo Phommahaxay, head of the joint committee for compilation of history.

The participants will take the occasion to visit several revolutionary bases in Laos ’s Sainyabuli and Luang Prabang provinces.

The north-western resistance committee, established in October, 1947, played an important role for both Vietnam and Laos during their resistance wars against French colonialists./.
