Vietnam and Laos have agreed to build a youth friendship village along the Laos-Vietnam border in Khamkeut district, in the Lao province of Bolikhamsay .
An agreement to this effect was signed between Nguyen Hoang Hiep, secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU) and Viliavon Phanthavong, chief of the office of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Union (LPRYU) on Jan. 17 in Vientiane .
Under the agreement, the LPRYU will ask the government to allot land to plant 3,500 hectares of rubber trees, build a rubber latex processing factory and choose youths to start business in the village.
Once approved by the Lao Prime Minister, Vietnam will start construction and submit a project on planting 650 hectares of rubber trees to Bolikhamsay province this month.
During the visit, the HCMCYU working group was also received by Khamphanh Sithidampha, secretary of the LCRYU.
Sithidampha welcomed the delegation’s visit and expressed his belief that the project would help promote the special Laos-Vietnam ties./.
