The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs on Oct. 21 signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in gender equality with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family of the Republic of Korea (RoK).

The two sides will cooperate in implementing national plans and programmes on gender equality, work out measures and policies to promote gender equality in political, economic, cultural and social areas and improve capacity for cadres operating in the field.

The two sides will also exchange visits, hold joint studies, seminars and forums, implement cooperation projects and exchange information on their operations.

The same day, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family also signed another MoU with the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) on cooperation in building healthy international marital activities and empowering women.

The two sides agreed to cooperate to ensure the stable integration of Vietnam-RoK multicultural families, focusing on the programme on local education for female emigrants before arriving in the RoK, measures to carry out healthy international marital activities between the two countries as well as to protect women’s rights, boost their participation in the society and combat domestic violence.

President of the VWU Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa thanked the RoK Government for adopting many policies to help multicultural families, including families of Vietnamese wives. She expressed her hope that the MoU would be implemented soon to ensure sustainability and happiness for the RoK-Vietnam families and raise women’s power.

According to Minister of Gender Equality and Family Paik Hee Young, at present 90,000 Vietnamese people are living in the RoK. The figure includes 35,000 Vietnamese brides or 25 percent of foreign brides in the country. The RoK President, the ministry and authorities at all levels are interested in assisting multicultural families, including Vietnamese wives.

The minister said she hoped that the implementation of the deal would help create many more happy multicultural families, contribute to creating close relations between the two countries./.
