VN seeks to develop energy efficient businesses

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to team up with the UNEP and the Hanss Seidel Foundation of Germany to support the development of energy efficient businesses.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) said it will team up with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Hanss Seidel Foundation of Germany (HSF) to support the development of energy efficient businesses.

MoNRE said energy efficient businesses would enable the country to create a low-carbon economy, which is being developed in many countries around the world as part of a global warming mitigation strategy.

However, foreign experts pointed to the need for Vietnam to overhaul its legal system and build a competent environmental governance for its low-carbon economy (called the green economy).

They also urged the nation to formulate a national action plan for sustainable production and consumption, focus on treating industrial waste, and build waste treatment facilities in urban and rural areas to ensure a balanced ecosystem.

In particular, the experts called on the country to do more to raise awareness among management agencies, implementation bodies and individuals of the importance of environmental protection.

They suggested that a green economy model be developed on Phu Quoc island and that the development of green urban areas is needed to create a low-carbon economy.

UNEP also pledged to continue supporting Vietnam to implement the National Strategy of ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ (3R)./.
