Vietnam thanks the governments of Egypt, Tunisia and other countries as well as relevant international organisations for their assistance to the country in its efforts to evacuate its citizens from chaotic Libya.

The statement was made by Ambassador Bui The Giang, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations at an UN urgent meeting on humanitarian situation in Libya , which was held in New York on March 10.

He stated that Vietnam was among the 47 countries having citizens in Libya when the humanitarian crisis took place and that it was also one of the countries which had already evacuated all of its citizens from the Libyan borders.

The ambassador suggested the governments of Bahrain , Manta and Tunisia to continue cooperation and license Vietnam ’s aircraft to fly through their airspaces to transport Vietnamese workers home from Libya in the next few days.

Together with efforts to evacuate its citizens from Libya , the Vietnamese government is working with local agencies and organisations on measures to stabilise the lives and provide jobs for the repatriates, he said.

A total of 8,728 Vietnamese workers in Libya had returned home safely by air by March 9, according to the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs./.
