Vietnam could become an attractive investment destination for Peruvian companies who are increasingly investing in foreign countries, Peru 's Foreign Trade Association (Comexperu) has said.

Peru’s state news agency Andinas quoted a press release by Comexperu as saying that the South American country should seize the opportunity to improve relations with Vietnam, a member of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

The association also stated that a trade agreement with Vietnam would help to promote trade between the two countries as well as attract investment from Hanoi .

Two-way trade turnover between Peru and Vietnam has tripled in the last five years, rising from 55.3 million USD in 2006 to 165 million USD in 2011.

In the first five months of this year, Peru exported 50 million USD worth of goods to Vietnam, an increase of 79 percent from the same period last year.-VNA
