Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen made the affirmation at her meeting with ILO General Director Juan Somavia on Dec. 6, on the sidelines of ILO’s 15th Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM15) in Tokyo .
Regarding cooperation between ILO and Vietnam , Chuyen said the ILO created several opportunities for Vietnam to participate in its activities, from developing policy to implementing policies related to social welfare, such as employment and poverty reduction.
During the framework of APRM15, Chuyen also had separate meetings with ministers of countries in the region, including Japan and Thailand .
At the meeting with Japanese Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, Yoko Komiyama, the two ministers agreed to conduct necessary preparations to implement agreements signed by the two countries’ prime ministers on sending Vietnamese nurses and medical workers to work in Japan .
Vietnam has so far sent 18,000 trainees to work in Japan , in the fields of electronics, mechanical engineering, agriculture and aquatic product processing.
On the same day, delegates attended a meeting on rights in the workplace and social dialogue, and a special meeting on partnerships to create jobs.
They also joined discussion of issues in the ILO General Director’s report on “building a sustainable future with good jobs in Asia Pacific”./.
