VN, US cooperate in overcoming AO consequences

The event aims to help the Vietnamese and US governments enhance theirunderstanding about AO/dioxin exposure levels and proposerecommendations based on scientific research on the chemical’s impact onhuman health and the environment.

US Ambassador toVietnam David Shear spoke highly of the Vietnamese Government’s effortsand determination in cooperating with the US in overcoming theconsequences of AO/dioxin for the Vietnamese people, affirming that theevent offers a chance for the two governments to review achievementsmade by JAC over the past six years of operation.

The delegates reviewed cooperation in handling dioxin hot spots in DaNang city, Bien Hoa city of Dong Nai province and Phu Cat districtof Binh Dinh province and discussed scientific research and the NationalAction Programme on overcoming the consequences of AO/dioxin from nowuntil 2015 and orientations towards 2020.

Dr. Le KeSon, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Environment Administrationand Chief of Office 33 (Office of the National Steering Committee onovercoming the consequences of toxic chemicals used by the US during thewar in Vietnam) said that with the participation of US andinternational organisations, activities to overcome the consequences ofAO/dioxin in Vietnam have been more effective./.

Phu Tho: 200kg bomb safely relocated, detonated

According to a report by the Phu Tho Military Command, local residents spotted the bomb on August 31 in the Da River after the river water receded, exposing it beneath mud and soil on the riverbed. The bomb remained intact, including its fuse, and was located about 300m from a residential area.

Shift to data-driven administrative procedures needs acceleration

Under a draft decree replacing Decree 63, authorities will have to proactively pull information from databases and records for informational or technical procedures. Applicants would no longer be required to resubmit documents, and certification or information requests could not be turned into discretionary licensing through an “ask – give” mechanism.
