The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) should co-operate more closely with other sectors, agencies and local authorities across the country in order to respond to events more swiftly, accurately and in line with Party and State guidelines, the agency's general director Nguyen Duc Loi announced in HCM City on December 28.

He was speaking at a conference held by the VNA and the National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) titled "Enhancing co-operation between the Vietnam News Agency and ministries, sectors and localities".

The conference also heard that as part of the country's continuing socio-economic development, the agency will attempt to improve its reliability, pursuit of the truth and ability to correct mistakes swiftly.

Loi said the agency appreciates the support of the ministries, agencies and local authorities. He added that reporters and editors have always received support when reporting on events and the ministries, agencies and local authorities have done their best to supply swift and correct information, assisting the agency in conveying the facts effectively in accordance with the guidelines.

He emphasised that the relationship can yet be improved further and a formal information stream to the agency will go some way to create a thorough consensus in society and best utilise the international support for the development and protection of Vietnam .

At the conference, participants discussed measures for the practical enhancement of this information flow.-VNA
