Vietnam News Agency (VNA) General Director Nguyen Duc Loi has asked chiefs of Vietnamese representative offices abroad to closely work with and create favourable conditions for the agency’s correspondents to fulfil their tasks.
Loi made the statement at a May 10 working session with newly-accredited ambassadors and consul generals who are about to leave the country for their 2013-2016 overseas missions.
VNA wishes to continue receiving effective cooperation from Vietnamese representative offices that supply information in countries where the agency has yet to establish bureaus, he said.
He called on the ambassadors and consul generals to assist VNA bureaus abroad in promoting the agency’s foreign news service.
Briefing them on VNA’s nearly 70-year development, Loi said the agency has over 2,300 employees and a range of products such as printed newspapers , e-newspapers and the VNEWS Television Channel.
The agency has established relationships with 40 partners across the world, looking towards a multimedia communication network, added the VNA General Director.
Apart from 63 bureaus in cities and provinces nationwide, VNA has set up 30 bureaus overseas that play an important role in providing information serving leadership and management requirements of the Party and the State.
They have also supported offices studying national strategic issues during the country’s comprehensive international integration while reflecting regional and international issues, Loi said.
On behalf of the ambassadors and delegation of chief representatives, Vietnamese Ambassador to Canada To Anh Dung said he highly values the strengths and performance of the national news agency over the past time, especially its foreign news service.
Highlighting the importance of foreign news sources, the ambassador pledged close coordination and favourable conditions for VNA’s overseas bureaus, contributing to the joint diplomatic mission.
The chief representatives said they are willing to partner with the agency in objecting erroneous information about Vietnam published in foreign newspapers while increasing information on the relationships Vietnam has with other countries.
They suggested VNA accelerates its online news, make the best use of photography in news and promptly provide information about the country’s development as well as the policies of the Party and State to the overseas Vietnamese community.-VNA
