Nearly 200 photos featuring Vietnam ’s seas and islands are being put on show at an exhibition in Hanoi with the aim of raising public awareness of defending national sea and island sovereignty.

Photos on show were selected from tens of thousands of Vietnam News Agency (VNA) documentaries, depicting the country’s beloved Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagoes together with the daily activities of soldiers and people there.

They also feature the working visits by leaders of the Party, State, Government and the National Assembly to local maritime areas and islands.

In addition, the photos reflect the development of the Vietnam-Russia oil and gas joint venture Vietsovpetrol over the past 50 years.

Speaking at the November 20 opening ceremony, VNA Deputy General Director Ngo Ha Thai hailed efforts by the agency’s photojournalists in gathering such a rich collection on the nation’s seas and islands and the life of local people.

Defending the national sovereignty over seas and islands has always been a subject for VNA photojournalists to explore, Thai stressed, adding that it is also the agency’s political mission.

Co-hosted by the Vietnam News Agency and Vietsopetro, the event will run until November 26.-VNA
