The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) handed over 60 sets of school furniture and a clean water facility worth 120 million VND (5,340 USD) to Hoang Lau school, Trung Yen commune, Son Duong district in the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang on September 5.
The VNA Youth Union also granted 10 scholarships each worth 500,000 VND (22.25 USD) to disadvantaged students with strong performance at school.
The initiatives were part of the “return to the roots” programme of the VNA; the national news agency operated in Trung Yen commune during the resistance war against French forces from 1952-1954.
Visiting the VNA memorial house on the day, VNA Director General Nguyen Duc Loi thanked Trung Yen locals for ensuring the safe and secret operation of the agency during the period.
He expressed his hope that the memorial house would continue to be a venue to educate young VNA journalists about the agency’s glorious tradition.-VNA
