Da Nang (VNA) –
A ceremony was held at the Vietnam News Agency (VNA)’s representative office in the central-Central Highlands region in Da Nang city on November 4 to inaugurate the agency’s space of traditions.

More than six decades ago, officials of Vietnam Thong Tan Xa (the precursor of the VNA) were sent to battlefields in the Military Zone 5 to build forces for Thong Tan Xa Giai Phong (Liberation News Agency).

During the wartime, the Liberation News Agency’s officials, reporters, editors and technicians made all-out efforts to ensure the flow of information and outstandingly fulfilled the tasks assigned by the Party, the State and the agency.

Despite difficulties and hardships, they were present in many battlefields to cover historic moments of the army and people in the central-Central Highlands region during the wartime.

After tens of years of collecting, the VNA’s representative office in the region has preserved thousands of objects donated by organisations and individuals at home and abroad.

Director of the representative office Ngo Anh Van said the space of traditions was built with the aim of keeping forever the glorious historical pages of the VNA in the central-Central Highlands region during the cause of national construction and defence.

After the inauguration ceremony, VNA General Director Nguyen Duc Loi presented 17 saving books, raised by the agency’s staff, to relatives of the martyrs and journalists who sacrificed their lives in the regional battlefields.

Over the past 75 years, the VNA has accompanied the nation’s major historic events. It has been awarded a Hero title three times: Labour Hero in the Renewal Period in 2001, and Hero of the People’s Armed Forces in 2005 and 2020.

Earlier on the day, Loi and his entourage had a working session with representatives of the Party Committee of Da Nang city.

Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang lauded the performance of VNA reporters during information campaigns to serve the COVID-19 fight, economic recovery, flood response and the municipal Party Congress.

Quang expressed his hope that the agency will continue its coordination with the city leaders in the information work.

For his part, Loi expressed his hope for more comprehensive and specific cooperation in the information and communication work between the two sides.
Given the rapid spread of fake news on social networks, the VNA’s mainstream information source plays an important role in guiding public opinion, contributing to ensure security and social order, he stressed./.
