Vietnam-Cambodia trade went down 26.4 percent from the same period in 2008, to 1.17 billion USD in the first 11 months of 2009 due to impacts of the global financial crisis, a trade official said.

Of the total, 1.01 billion USD came from Vietnamese exports, with petroleum products recording the highest turnover of 400 million USD. They were followed by building steel with 160 million USD, machinery, 35 million USD, plastic products, 32 million USD, and garment materials, 28 million USD.

The Vietnamese commercial counsellor in Cambodia, Le Bien Cuong, said Vietnam and Cambodia are hopeful in reaching this year’s target of 2 billion USD, citing a slight recovery in two-way trade in November of 2009.

Vietnam-Cambodia bilateral trade has grown rapidly in recent years, from just 935 million USD in 2006 to almost 1.7 billion in 2008./.
