The Prime Minister has signed a decision to approve a plan to develop the Vietnam-Cambodia land border gate system until 2020.

The plan aims to establish a system of standard land border gates between Vietnam and Cambodia that meet the socio-economic development demand of the locality and the region, thus contributing to raising the State budget.

It will also help connect all international and main border gates along the Vietnam-Cambodia border with the national system, making customs clearance quicker and more effective.

For international and main border gates, in the 2013-20 period, the People’s Committees of provinces bordering Cambodia will work closely with the Cambodian side to submit to the two Governments the establishment and upgrading of three international land, one international railway and nine main land border gates in the Central Highlands, southeast and southwest regions.

For other border gates, priority will be given to works about to be completed and those bringing in high socio-economic efficiency and reflecting national identity.

The provincial People’s Committees will actively discuss with their Cambodian counterparts to decide the opening of auxiliary border gates at an appropriate time.-VNA
