- An 18-propeller drone-like flying taxi has taken to the skies of Singapore for the first time, as German firm Volocopter conducted a test flight of its vehicle around the Marina Bay district.

The battery-operated, two-seater vehicle flew for about two minutes and 30 seconds, with a pilot on board, on October 22.

Earlier, Volocopter had already conducted tests in Helsinki of Finland, Las Vegas of the US, Dubai and various parts of Germany.

Volocopter said it hopes to provide the flying taxi service for the world’s major urban areas in the next 2-4 years, and then launch it in traffic-choked cities in Asia.

Volocopter CEO Florian Reuter said Volocopter aims to bring it to Jakarta (Indonesia), Manila (the Philippines) and Bangkok (Thailand) because they have a great need for it, and India and China too.

In Singapore, the flying taxi will be used to provide quick travel on specific routes such as from Marina Bay to Sentosa island, home to a number of tourist attractions and luxury hotels./.
