Votes open ahead of Dedication Music Awards

Voting to decide the winners of the 2015 Dedication Music Awards was launched by the Vietnam News Agency’s Sport and Culture newspaper (The Thao & Van Hoa daily) on March 31 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The annual awards celebrate the innovative efforts of thecountry’s most imaginative musicians. Nominees are chosen by culturaljournalists based on their creativity and practical contribution topublic music.

On March 6, the newspaper announced thenominations for the awards across seven categories. Numerous youngartists are in with a shot of winning prizes, including Thao Trang,Nguyen Tran Trung Quan and Nguyen Dinh Thanh Tam.

“Noi Dao Xa”and “To Quoc Goi Ten Minh”, both nominees for Song of the Year, havereceived particular attention from the public. The latter was themost-performed song in 2014, and inspired patriotism among theVietnamese people following rising tensions in the East Sea.

The 10 th Dedication Awards, initiated in 2005 by the Sport andCulture daily newspaper, are scheduled to take place in Ho Chi Minh Cityon April 6.-VNA

Po Klong Garai: Cham towers preserving centuries of history

The complex comprises three main structures: the Chinh (Main) Tower, Cong (Gate)Tower and Lua (Fire) Tower. The Main Tower stands about 20.5 metres tall, featuring a square base and tiered roofs that narrow towards the top. The Fire Tower, with its distinctive boat-shaped curved roof, adds a contrasting feature to the ensemble. Columns, niches, lotus motifs and decorative patterns adorn the brick walls.

On the morning of October 10, a ceremony was held at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square in Hanoi to launch a nationwide campaign encouraging regular physical exercise under the message “Everyone should choose at least one suitable sport to practise regularly”. The event was held in person and connected online with 33 provinces and cities nationwide.

From Berlin, the Vietnamese guitar fosters cultural connections to global community

This year, 30 contestants from 15 countries entered the competition, with five finalists set to compete on October 10 at Ballhaus Prinzenallee in Berlin. The programme also includes a gala concert, masterclasses and a guitar exhibition. Long’s compositions have been selected as compulsory pieces, introducing international musicians to Vietnamese music.

Hanoi launches project to build cultural industry hub in Old Quarter

The project, covering about 3,862sqm. at 17 Nguyen Thien Thuat and 40 Thanh Ha, includes around 2,317sqm. of construction area. It will renovate existing structures, improve architecture and landscaping, upgrade technical infrastructure and create spaces for cultural, artistic and creative activities.
