Two unexploded wartime bombs, each weighing more than 200 kg, were safely disabled at Thanh commune, Huong Hoa district, the central province of Quang Tri on September 23.

The bombs, which were discovered along Se Pon river in A Ho village following the recent flood, measure 1.5m long and 0.8m in diametre each.

Local officials said they were possibly dropped by the US Army in 1968 to prevent the uprising of local people and soldiers during the campaign to liberate Huong Hoa district.

To date, over 20 bombs have been found in the area, especially after the historic flood in 2009 when seven bombs left by the US air forces were defused.-VNA
