Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has presented 10 million VND from his salary to war veteran Pham Van Duoc, who is believed to have died for 40 years and has shown up recently.
Nguyen Van Thanh, Chairman of the municipal People’s Council of Hai Phong on June 25 visited Duoc at his home in Tien Minh commune, Tien Lang district, Hai Phong city, where he also conveyed the Prime Minister’s greetings and handed over his cash gift to the veteran.
Representatives from agencies, units, businesses and organisations and individuals in and outside Tien Lang district came to share the joy of Duoc’s family over his return.
Pham Van Duoc, or Phan Huu Duoc, was enrolled in the voluntary youth team in 1967. He joined the army in 1970.
Duoc got serious injuries physically and psychologically during wartime. He then lost his memory and was wandering to different parts of the country before reaching his home after 40 years.-VNA
