War veterans in the anti-French resistance war in many localities across the country gathered at meetings on May 7 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954-May 7, 2014).

The War Veterans Association in the central province of Quang Tri hosted a gathering for their members and families of fallen soldiers. On the occasion, the provincial authorities presented gifts to the war veterans.

In the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, nearly 700 former soldiers, conscripted labourers and youth volunteers who used to fought in the battle met to share their memories about their unforgettable time of hardship and bravery.

The southern province of An Giang also organized a meeting of anti-French resistance war veterans. In addition to gifts, the province presented two houses worth 60 million VND each to needy veterans.

A similar event was held in the southern province of Soc Trang.

The same day, the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists opened an exhibition in Hanoi, putting on display 60 selected photos of Dien Bien in the past and at present as well as of General Vo Nguyen Giap.-VNA
