Can Tho (VNA) – A waste-to-energy factory wasinaugurated in Thoi Lai district of Can Tho on December 8, expected to helpaddress the solid waste pollution facing the Mekong Delta city recently.

The plant, which has investment of 1.05 trillionVND (47 million USD), covers 5.3ha of land in Truong Xuan commune.

It applies waste-to-energy technology thatenables it to burn 400 tonnes of solid waste to produce some 150,000 kWh of powereach day, equivalent to 60 million kWh per year.

The factory began trial operations on October15, and its treatment capacity can reach 500 tonnes of waste per day, accordingto the Can Tho EB Environmental Energy Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of the investor –China Everbright International Ltd.

Vice Chairman of the Can Tho municipal People’sCommittee Dao Anh Dung said the plant is the first of its kind that has appliedadvanced technology to treat solid waste and create a new environmentallyfriendly source of energy.

The project will also help the city accessefficient waste treatment technologies to reduce pollution and improve theliving environment, thus helping to ensure sustainable development.

The official also expressed his hope that theplant will prove effective and become a suitable model to be expanded to otherlocalities. –VNA

Northern region to experience cold spell

Floods affect over 16,000 homes, nearly 25,000ha of crops

The floods submerged and damaged 22,499ha of rice, crops and vegetables, along with 2,172ha of other crops. A further 1,175.62ha of aquaculture areas were affected. Some 1,999 metres of irrigation canals were eroded or damaged, while 15 schools were flooded.

Heavy rains cause widespread damage in Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa

Ninh Binh establishes Kim Bang white-rumped langur conservation area

Covering a total area of 3,182ha, the conservation area comprises 3,016.81ha of natural forest, 64.25ha of plantation forest and 100.94ha of land without forest, with no water surface area. It is located in the Ly Thuong Kiet, Tam Chuc and Nguyen Uy wards of Ninh Binh province.
