A groundbreaking ceremony was held on March 29 for a 95 million USD waste water treatment plant in southern Binh Duong Province that will benefit 50,000 residents in the town of Thu Dau Mot.

Located across an 11-ha area, the plant will include a facility capable of treating 17,650 cubic metres of water per day.

The plant will help to protect the environment in the area as well as the Sai Gon River which serves as a major water source for HCM City.

Under the framework of Japanese ODA, the Southern Binh Duong Water Environment Improvement project is scheduled for completion in mid 2013.

An expert from Japan's International Co-operation Agency said that the project would help protect the environment in the area by treating waste water that was previously disposed of directly into rivers. /.
