Most components of the World Bank-funded Sustainable City Development Project in central Da Nang city have been kept on schedule with satisfactory outcomes, said Dang Duc Cuong, senior urban specialist at World Bank (WB) Vietnam.

The component projects include drainage and wastewater improvement, bus rapid transit development, urban strategic roads, technical assistance and capacity building.

According to a WB working group’s report after the recent inspection trip to the city, it is estimated that about 35 percent of the project fund has been disbursed by August 2015.

The group also supported the city’s People’s Committee’s proposal for an additional 100 million USD funding from the WB, which aims at developing a fully-integrated public transport system, separate drainage networks for each selected area coupled with wastewater treatment stations and improved connectivity of local roads and the national networks.

The WB working group recommended the project’s management board to prepare a detailed plan for component contracts that require additional budget and a schedule for holding biddings for projects with no extra funding requirements before August 28. All contractors for components of the original project should be selected before March next year.-VNA
