The Northern Power Corporation under Electricity of Vietnam (EVN NPC) launched a project to improve power distribution efficiency for the northern region, in Thanh Hoa province on January 13.

The two-phase project will be implemented in the 2013-2017 period with a total investment of over 4.2 trillion VND (201 million USD).

It will build 110kV power grids and middle- and low-voltage power works in rural areas in 19 northern provinces and cities.

This is a part of the World Bank-funded Distribution Efficiency Project (DEP), the largest-ever funded by the WB for the power grid in Vietnam .

The project has a total investment of 724.8 million USD, of which 488.9 million USD is sourced by ODA capital and the remaining by the investors. The EVN is the main investor and its five corporations are in charge of component projects.

A total of 40 provinces and cities will benefit from the project, which is expected to reduce power losses in the transmission process and improve the quality of power supply in target areas.-VNA
