The Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank Group has approved an addition aid worth 6.5 million USD for the “Coastal Resources for Sustainable Development” project in Vietnam .
The World Bank (WB) said on March 30 that the aid is sourced from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), a WB-managed trust fund that provides grants for projects related to biodiversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, ozone reduction and persistent organic pollution.
The money will be used for inter-sectoral planning for coastal areas and the management of near-shore fishing. It will be directly allocated to poor fishermen to help them in making and implementing the plans.
Beneficiaries from the project include Ca Mau, Soc Trang, Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Ha Tinh, Nghe An and Thanh Hoa provinces.
Earlier, the WB has granted 100 million USD to the four-component project that focuses on strengthening institutional capacity for sustainable fisheries management, good practices for sustainable aquaculture, sustainable management of near-shore fishing, and project management, monitoring and evaluation.-VNA
